Purple and Gold Return to the AWC for A-R-C Matchup with Central College

DUBUQUE, Iowa – In the midst of a 10-game win streak the Loras College Duhawk men's basketball team welcomes in the Central College Dutch for an American Rivers Conference bout Saturday afternoon inside the Lilis Athletic & Wellness Center. Tip is set for 4 p.m. on Lillis Court.

LAST TIME OUT
The Purple and Gold are coming off an 89-75 victory over Buena Vista University on Wednesday evening. Declan Ciurlik led the Duhawks with 18 points, followed by Tyler Bass and Ali Sabet with 15 points each. Jack Haynes had 11 points on 5-for-5 shooting.

Jackson Molstead and Jared Pearson rounded out double digit scorers for Loras, with each contributing 10 points. Molstead hit two threes and was perfect from the free throw line (2-2) in a team-high 36 minutes of play, while Pearson was 2-for-3 (66.7 percent) from the field and 5-of-5 from the charity stripe – all while tying Bass for the team lead in rebounds (9) in only 14 minutes of action.

Loras posted a 38-19 advantage in rebounding and spent over 34 minutes with the lead over the course of the game. The Duhawks once again shined from the free throw line, going 14-for-17 (82.4 percent).

ABOUT THE DUHAWKS
Loras enters Saturday's game with an overall record of 12-1, with a 3-1 mark in A-R-C play, placing the Duhawks third in the A-R-C standings. The Duhawks score the fourth-most points in the NCAA at a mark of 92.2 points per game, while also boasting the fourth-best free throw percentage (81.1 percent) and making the fourth-most three pointers per game (13.2) in the country.

Sabet leads the team in scoring, putting up 19.5 points per game. Molstead is second on the team with his average of 14.2, followed by Haynes (13.2) and Bass (11.7). Sabet is the nation's best free throw shooter, as the senior guard converts on 94.7 percent of his attempts. The Glenview, Ill. native also ranks among the nation's best in multiple statistical categories including made three pointers (3rd – 46) and made three pointers per game (5th - 3.54).

Bass is the team leader in rebounds, pulling in 7.5 per game – a mark that ranks fourth in the A-R-C. Haynes' field goal percentage (69.9 percent) ranks first in the conference and second in the nation among eligible players. 

SCOUTING THE DUTCH
Central sits one spot behind Loras in the A-R-C standings with an overall record of 9-4, including a conference mark of 3-1. The Dutch are coming off back-to-back losses, with its most recent 77-73 showing against Bethany Lutheran (MN) on Jan. 2.

6-10 senior center Joshua Van Gorp leads the team and conference in scoring at 21.8 points per game, which also puts the big man at 10th in the nation in points per game. Van Gorp also leads the A-R-C in rebounds (11.6 per game) and double-doubles (7).

Second in points per game is senior guard Kaleb Brand at 15.8, followed by forward Kole Tupa with 11.3. The Dutch are the conference leader in rebounds (45.5 per game), assists (20 per game), and blocks (5.2 per game).

THE SERIES
Since 2003, the Duhawks hold the series advantage at 29-17. Last year on Feb. 23, Loras downed Central, 79-67, behind 43 combined points by Ciurlik (23) and Bass (20). Loras holds an all time record of 16-9 while playing the Dutch on its home court.
