Duhawks Welcome in Luther College on Wednesday Night

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Looking to make it 12-straight victories, the Loras College Duhawks welcome in Luther College on Wednesday night inside the Lillis Athletic & Wellness Center. Tip between the two American Rivers Conference foes is set for 7:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Purple and Gold are coming off a thrilling 68-67 victory over Central College on Saturday evening. Myles Barry found Jack Haynes on an inbounds pass with less than three seconds remaining to set up Haynes for the game-winning bucket over the Dutch. 

Senior guard Ali Sabet finished with 17 points to lead Loras, going 6-for-11 from the field with four rebounds and three assists. Declan Ciurlik was 3-for-4 from beyond the arc en route to 13 points, all while tying a career-high with four steals.

Haynes closed out the game with 13 points to round out double-digit scorers for the Duhawks. The 6-7 sophomore forward out of Streator, Ill. knocked down three three-pointers, setting a new career-high.

As a team the Duhawks shot just 39.7 percent from the field (25-63) compared to 45.8 percent from Central,

ABOUT THE DUHAWKS
Loras is second in the nation in free throw percentage (80.3 percent), third in made three pointers per game (13.0), sixth in scoring (90.4 points per game), sixth in three point attempts (32.6), and eighth in three point field goal percentage (39.8 percent).

Sabet leads the team in scoring, putting up 19.4 points per game. Senior guard Jackson Molstead is second with an average of 13.5, followed by Haynes (13.2) and junior forward Tyler Bass (11.3).

Bass leads the program in rebounding, pulling in 7.2 per game – a mark that stands fifth in the A-R-C. Haynes leads the team and  conference in field goal percentage, hitting 69.4 percent of his shots from the floor.

SCOUTING THE NORSE
Luther College sits last in the A-R-C standings with an overall record of 5-10, including a conference mark of 0-6. The Norse are coming off back-to-back losses, with its most recent being a 77-65 showing against Simpson College on Saturday.

As a team, Luther averages 64.5 points per game, while giving up 70.7. The Norse average a league-low 56.1 percent from the free throw line, converting roughly 8.3 every 14.9 attempts. A bright spot for the program this season has been its efforts on the glass, as the team pulls in the second-most rebounds in the A-R-C at 39.1 per game.

Senior guard Daniel Webster leads the team in scoring at 10.4 points per game, followed by senior center Ben Gill at 10.1. Senior forward Mikkel Schutte leads the team in rebounding at 6.2 boards per game, while Andrew Lazinbat is the team leader in assists with 40.

THE SERIES
Since 2003, the Duhawks own the all time series at a mark of 29-14. Last time the two teams met was on Feb. 8, 2023, where Luther came out of Dubuque with a 71-54 victory over the Loras. The Purple and Gold are winners of 14 of the previous 16 meetings between the two programs, with its last win coming on Jan. 4 of last season, 85-73, in Decorah.
