DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's soccer team secured the American Rivers Conference Tournament title after completing a comeback win over No. 2-seeded Simpson College Saturday night in the Rock Bowl.
Simpson (14-2-3, 7-1-0 A-R-C) got on the board first at the 12:16-minute mark, when Cassie Nash headed one into the back of the net off a corner kick from Hailey Kowzan.
Loras (19-0-0, 8-0-0) answered back three minutes later by way of
Lauren Riggle, as she earned her 12
th goal of the season off a perfectly placed corner kick by
Reagan Lindsay.
The score would be even at one apiece for both squads as the first half concluded. It wasn't until near the 80
th minute of play where the Storm would take a 2-1 lead off a corner kick from Kowzan that found Elle Street's head as she earned her first goal of the season.
The Duhawks weren't done yet, as in the 85
th minute,
Belle Johnson evened the game at 2-2 off another well-kicked corner by Lindsay.
Physicality was on full display as both teams were fighting to take the lead. The Purple and Gold struck one home with only 20 seconds left on the clock.
Emerson Gasmann headed the game-winner past the Storm's goalkeeper off assists from
Savannah Johnson and
Christina Salerno after a corner kick bounced around the box.
With the 3-2 comeback win, the Duhawks have secured the A-R-C Tournament title and have earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight year.
