CHICAGO, Ill. – The Loras College men's basketball team fell to North Park University, 73-64, in its first road test of the season on Wednesday night.
The Duhawks held their largest lead of the night (12-5) with 14:33 remaining in the first half, but North Park (1-2 overall) used an 11-3 run to erase the deficit and take its first lead of the contest (16-15). Both squads traded points throughout the rest of the half, but the home team headed into the locker room at the break with a one-point advantage (29-28).
Loras' (3-1) final lead of the night came just 1:32 into the second half (32-31). A dunk from Taijon Barry at 17:39 put the Vikings in front once again and they would stay ahead for the remainder of the game. The Duhawks knotted the score up at 44-44 with just over 10 minutes to play, but North Park answered back with 10 consecutive points to take the first double-digit lead of the night. The Vikings extended their lead to as many as 14 and the Purple and Gold were able to cut the lead down to single digits (8), but it wasn't enough.
Davante Robinson went 4-of-5 from behind the arc to lead the Vikings offense with 12 points. Rico Powell and TJ Gardner followed closely behind with 11 points apiece. North Park capitalized on the Duhawk turnovers, scoring over 30 percent (23 points) off of them. The home team shot 48.3 percent (28-of-58) from the floor and 37 percent (10-of-27) from three to earn its first win of the season.
Jack Haynes paced the Duhawk offense with 22 points and 14 boards for his first double-double of the year.
Tyler Bass registered his third double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points and 13 boards, while
Gavin Sarvis added in 10 points and a pair of assists. Loras shot 37.3 percent (22-of-59) from the field and struggled to establish itself from behind the arc, shooting just 13.3 percent (2-of-15).
