DECORAH, Iowa – The Loras College women's wrestling team competed in the Luther College Open Saturday morning.
In the 117-pound weight division
Mia Ward fell to both her opponents Ella Weber from Simpson and Kylie Hessenius from Iowa Lakes Community College.
Bailey Welu wrestled in the 124-pound division, where she fell to Angelica Torres Lima from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point by a decision of 8-4. Welu would then fall in her next match against Ashton Hofeling from Southeast Community College.
In the 138-pound weight class,
Alyssa Seippel came up short against Simpson College's Hannah Hernandez and Quincy University's Isabella Weiner by falls.
AvaBlue McDermott competed in the 145-pound weight class where she took on Maryam Ndiaye from Augustana College (Ill.) and Elly Janovsky from UW-Stevens Point. McDermott fell to both of her opponents.
Wrestling in the final weight division for the Duhawks was
Isabella Baer who competed in the 180-pound class. Baer fell to her first opponent Tabitha Breitrick from UW-Stevens Point. In the consolation round, Baer defeated Alyssa Arce from Upper Iowa University by a fall of 1:08. She ended her run after a tech fall from Cornell College's Danyia Werner.
