DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College men's basketball team took down the Alma College Scots, 76-52, on Saturday evening.
A three-pointer from
Jared Pearson broke the lone tie of the contest (5-5) to put the Purple and Gold in front 8-5 with 13:42 left to play in the opening half. The Duhawks extended their lead to as many as 13 in the first half and went into the locker room with a 37-28 advantage.
Loras (8-2, 2-0 A-R-C) outscored Alma (0-10, 0-0 MIAA) 39-24 in the second half to secure its eighth victory of the season with ease.
Nolan Berendes and Pearson led the way for the Duhawks with both sinking five three-pointers and converting one free throw on a three-point play to finish with 18 points apiece. Berendes also pulled down seven rebounds, while Pearson dished out a pair of assists.
Gavin Sarvis and
Connor Mosele added in 13 and 11 points respectively in the win as well. As a team, Loras shot 46.7 percent (28-of-60) from the floor and 40.7 percent (11-of-27) from behind the arc.
Raine Rodich paced the Alma offense with 13 points, while Jeremy Rosario contributed 10 points, two blocks and eight boards. The Scots shot 33.9 percent (20-of-59) from the field and 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from downtown.
