DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's basketball team earned a 70-58 victory over the University of Olivet Monday afternoon.
At the start of the contest, it was back and forth as each team was trading points. Loras (3-8, 0-2 A-R-C) started to have success and would go on to take the lead 18-12 to end the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Duhawks did not let up offensively as they led by as many as 12. However, the University of Olivet (3-8, 0-3 MIAA) would decrease the lead down to five as the Duhawks went to the locker room with 33-28 advantage.
The final two quarters were all Purple and Gold. The Duhawks led by as many as 15 in route to earn their final victory of 2024.
Emerson Whittenbaugh led the way with a season-high 20 points along with securing 10 rebounds, a steal, block, and an assist.
Kylie Rigby and
Lexi Beier both contributed 10 points respectively. Rigby grabbed four rebounds and earned two steals while Beier collected two rebounds and dished out three assists and a block. As a team Loras shot 39.7 (25-63) percent from the floor and 80 (8-10) percent from the free throw line.
Lily Connelly paced the Comets offense with 13 points in addition to eight rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Kaylee Bush, the only other member of the Olivet offense in double figures, had 12 points on the day. As a team the Comets shot 40.4 (21-52) percent from the field and 61.9 (13-21) percent from the charity stripe.
Up Next: The Duhawks get back into conference play as they welcome Nebraska Wesleyan University to Lillis Court on Saturday, Jan. 4. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
