The Loras College women's basketball team picked up its first conference win over Nebraska Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon.
Emerson Whittenbaugh opened the scoring for Loras (4-8, 1-2 A-R-C) as she banked a layup home to give the Duhawks a 2-0 lead. Nebraska Wesleyan (1-11, 0-3) would answer with two points as Maddie Demke made a layup for the only tie score of the game.
For the remainder of the contest, it would be all Purple and Gold. A second quarter 11-0 run would give the Duhawks a 41-8 lead as they headed to the locker room.
To begin the second half, the Prairie Wolves would go on a 4-0 to try and cut the deficit, but the strong Loras defense would be too much for Nebraska Wesleyan.
Multiple Duhawks got in on the scoring, but the only double-digit scorer came by way of
Silvana Scarsella who finished with 10 points in addition to six rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
Kylie Rigby,
Claire Wagner, and
Ashtyn Kelderman had nine points apiece. The home team shot 33.3 (23-69) percent from the field and 56.3 (9-16) percent from the free throw line.
The Prairie Wolves were led by Maddie Demke as she scored six points as well as pulled down four rebounds and dished out one assist. Brynn Sebek and Tessa Skelton weren't far behind with four points apiece. The visitors shot 20.5 (8-39) percent from the field and 80.0 (8-10) percent from the charity stripe.
