WAVERLY, Iowa – The Loras College women's basketball team came up short to No. 2 ranked Wartburg College, 80-59, Wednesday evening inside Levick Arena.
In the first quarter, the Knights went on a 5-0 run, but the Duhawks would answer by taking the lead 8-3 with 3:58 left in the first quarter. However, Wartburg (7-0, 2-0 A-R-C) regained the lead by one point going into the second quarter.
For the remainder of the game, the host team took the lead and never let up and at one moment led by as many as 18 points.
Daniella Jarrell and
Kylie Rigby led the Duhawk offense each scoring 11 points on the night. Jarrell grabbed five rebounds and dished out eight assists, while Rigby also had five rebounds and three steals.
Rounding out the double-digit scorers came by way of
Ashtyn Kelderman and
Emerson Whittenbaugh. Kelderman had 11 points, while also securing three rebounds and adding two assists along with a block and a steal. Whittenbaugh had three rebounds and three assists.
As a team, Loras (1-6, 0-2 A-R-C) shot 32.2 (19-of-59) percent from the field, 31 (9-of-29) percent from beyond the arc, and 80 (12-of-15) percent from the free throw line.
Sara Faber paced the Knights with 24 points while pulling down eight rebounds and handing out eight assists. Following Faber's lead was Jaedon Murphy who scored 16 points while registering six rebounds, five assists, four blocks, and two steals.
Not far behind were Grace Hennessy and Maggie Wilkins who closed out the double-digit performers for the Knights. Hennessy scored 15 points with six rebounds, one assist, and two steals, while Wilkins finished with 10 points on the night.
As a team, Wartburg shot 47.5 (29-of-61) percent from the field, 35.7 (10-of-28) percent from beyond the three-point line, and 80 (12-of-15) percent from the foul line.
