Duhawks Fall to Eagles, 62-56

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Duhawk women's basketball team suffered a 62-56 loss to University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Saturday evening.

The Duhawks largest lead came in the first quarter when they led by 8-4 with five minutes left to go in the quarter. But the Eagles would answer back and go on to lead by as many as six points to end the first quarter by a score of 14-13.

To begin the second quarter, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (6-3, 0-0 WIAC) would go on a 5-0 run to make the score 18-13 in favor of the Eagles. Loras (1-7, 0-2 A-R-C) would answer back and take the lead 19-18 with a little over four minutes left to play in the second half. The remainder of the half would be back and forth but ultimately the Eagles would go on to lead 27-22 at the half and never look back.

La Crosses' Grace Knupp led the scoring with 17 points, while grabbing two rebounds, adding two assists and three steals on the night. The only other double-digit scorer for the Eagles was Ali Sprangers who ended the night with 12 points, in addition to nine rebounds and four blocks.

The home team shot 32.3 (20-62) percent from the field, 25.9 (7-27) percent from beyond the arc, and 62.5 (15-24) percent from the charity strip.

Loras had three members in double digits. Leading the team with 18 points came by way of Lexi Beier. She earned three rebounds, dished out one assist and a steal. Silvana Scarsella and Claire Wagner would be the only other two in double figures for the Duhawks. Scarsella put down 11 points while securing 10 rebounds, one assist and a steal. Wagner had 10 points along with eight rebounds and four steals on the night.

The Purple and Gold as a team shot 33.9 (19-56) percent from the field, 22.2 (6-27) percent from the three, and 54.5 (12-22) percent from the foul line.
