DECORAH, Iowa – The Loras College women's basketball team earned its 21
st win of the season with a 71-50 victory over Luther College on Wednesday evening inside the Regents Center.
Sami Martin scored an and one layup less than a minute into the contest to give the Duhawks a 3-0 lead that they would only extend throughout the remainder of the game. Loras (21-3 overall, 13-2 American Rivers Conference) held the Norse to back-to-back single digit quarters to head into the locker room with a comfortable 37-18 lead at the half.
Luther (10-14, 5-10) outscored the Duhawks in the third quarter, 12-9, cutting the deficit to 16, but the Purple and Gold responded with a 25-point fourth period to cruise to their final road victory of the regular season.
Martin led the way for Loras with 21 points, seven rebounds and one block. The Platteville, Wis. native shot 60 percent (9-of-15) from the floor, including a perfect 3-of-3 from the charity stripe in 28 minutes of action.
Madison Fleckenstein added in 19 points and five steals, while
Emerson Whittenbaugh rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Duhawks with 11 points.
The Norse were led by Kailey Jones who finished with a double-double, which featured 10 points and 13 rebounds. Haylie Strum chipped in nine points and a trio of steals as well for Luther.
Up Next: The Duhawks close out their regular season against the University of Dubuque Spartans on Saturday, Feb. 17. The Purple and Gold will be honoring the senior members of their squad prior to tipoff on Lillis Court at 2:00 p.m.
