DUBUQUE, Iowa –
Madison Fleckenstein became the 12
th Duhawk in program history to reach 1,000 career points with her 15 points in the Loras College women's basketball team's 83-75 victory over Simpson College on Monday evening.
The Duhawks trailed by just one point in the first 28 seconds of the contest before regaining the lead and maintaining it for the rest of the game. Loras (18-3 overall, 10-2 American Rivers Conference) connected on five three-point attempts in the opening quarter, which accounted for nearly half of their first period points (31).
Simpson (12-10, 7-6) outscored the Duhawks in both the second and third quarter, erasing the 17-point lead the Purple and Gold once had to just two points with 3:08 left to play.
Sami Martin helped Loras secure the win in the final minutes, scoring the final eight points for her team.
The Storm led a balanced offensive attack with Molly Lutmer and Cassie Nash each finishing with 21 points. Nash and Lutmer pulled down five boards apiece, while Nash also dished out a game-high six assists. Haley Rasmussen added in 10 points for Simpson As a team, the Storm shot 48.4 percent (30-of-62) from the floor and 32 percent (8-of-25) from behind the arc.
Martin led all scorers with a season-high 26 points. The Platteville, Wis. native shot 12-of-16 from the field in 27 minutes of action.
Daniella Jarrell contributed 16 points to go along with a pair of blocks and steals, while Fleckenstein achieved her milestone shooting 57.1 percent (4-of-7) from downtown.
Silvana Scarsella rounded out the double-digit scorers for Loras with 13 points and seven rebounds. As a team, the Duhawks shot 53.2 percent (33-of-62) from the floor and won the rebounding battle 40-25.
