CHICAGO, Ill. – The Loras College softball team dropped two games in the North Park University Invite Sunday afternoon.
Loras 0, University of Chicago 2
The University of Chicago (10-6) scored both of its runs in the bottom of the third inning. An RBI double and a base hit would produce the only runs of the game. Loras (12-5) struggled to get their bats going and ultimately were unable to record a hit for the game. Paige Heffke threw seven no hit innings for the Maroons while striking out nine.
Loras 2, North Park University 4
After a scoreless first two innings, North Park (3-8) scored the game's first runs in the top of the third. Kayla Sapolu delivered an RBI double and Kayla Lorenz had an RBI single to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Loras (12-6) was able to get their first run of the game to cut the lead in half.
Emily Monahan reached second on an error before a base hit by
Olivia Martinelli scored Monahan. In the fifth inning, North Park added two more runs thanks to another RBI double and an error. The Duhawks were able to get a run back in the bottom half of the inning when
Payton Meier scored off a base hit off the bat of
Alyssa Hughes. Both teams would go scoreless over the next two innings.
Up Next: Loras will travel to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Wednesday, March 27 for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
