KENOSHA, Wis.- The No. 4 Loras College Duhawks men's volleyball team came up short against the No. 10 Carthage College Firebirds, 3-1, Saturday afternoon inside the Tarble Arena.

In the first set, the Duhawks jumped out to a 7-3 lead, before Carthage (15-5 overall, 7-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) responded by tying the score at 7-7. Neither the Firebirds nor the Duhawks were able to gain momentum as the score was tied once again at 17-17 late in the set. Despite trailing 21-18 near the end of the set, a
Dorian Fiorenza kill was able to spark an 8-3 run for the Duhawks who would go on to take the set, 26-24.

In set two, with the score tied at six, Carthage used a 5-0 run to take charge of the set. Loras (20-1, 7-1) struggled to gain any momentum and would ultimately fall short in the set 25-18. In set three, the Firebirds raced out to a 10-2 lead and did not look back. The Duhawks fell 25-17 in the set.

In set four, both teams traded points early on and throughout the middle of the set, until Carthage went on a 5-2 run to take a 20-15 lead. Carthage would then hang on to its lead to win the set, 25-20.

Loras was led by
Corey Mayotte and Fiorenza who finished with 20 and 17 kills respectively, while
Joe Horn had 39 assists. As a team, Loras hit .174, which included 46 kills on 109 attempts.

Carthage was led by Owen Otto with 16 kills, while David Markes had 13 kills.
