OSHKOSH, Wis. – The Loras College softball team split a pair of games inside the UW-Oshkosh Rec Plex Dome on Saturday afternoon.
The Duhawks dropped their first game of the day to the host by a score of 6-0 but bounced back to take game two against Beloit College 9-1.
UW-Oshkosh 6, Loras 0
The UW-Oshkosh (4-0) offense came out strong, bringing in three runs before the Duhawks could get a single out in the opening inning. The Purple and Gold turned things around following the scoring frenzy with three straight outs. The Titans added two more runs in the third inning and one in the fifth to walk away with the shutout win. Loras (2-3) was never able to get any sort of offensive momentum going, which resulted in just three hits and three runners left on base all game.
Loras 9, Beloit 1
Despite the fact that Beloit (1-1) put themselves on the board first with a singular run in the third, the Loras (3-3) bats responded by coming to life in the bottom of the inning, bringing in six runs.
Katherine Svigelj got things started for the Duhawks with a base hit to center field.
Alyssa Hughes brought Svigelj home after tripling down the right field line, while
Payton Meier returned the favor with a single to left field, allowing Hughes to cross home plate.
Ava Franklin joined Meier on the bases after being hit by a pitch.
Emily Monahan doubled to left center, bringing in both base runners to increase the Duhawks lead to 4-1. Loras benefited from a Buccaneers' throwing error, which brought in Monahan for run No. 5.
Olivia Martinelli scored the final run of the breakout inning for the Purple and Gold off a
Morgan Machovec base hit.
Loras added in a pair of runs in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth to earn their third win of the season.
Meier, Monahan and Svigelj finished with two hits apiece. Meier and Monahan added three and two RBIs to their stat lines respectively, while Svigelj scored two runs.
Rachel Peat earned the win on the mound, giving up just five hits and one run and striking out three batters.
