ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Loras College men's tennis team came up short in its final nonconference match of the year, falling 5-4 to Augustana College on Sunday morning.
The Duhawks dominated the Vikings in doubles play, winning all three matches to head into singles competition with a 3-0 lead.
Thomas Kampmier and
Gage Becker defeated Aingeru Garcia and Gustavo Fontenelle, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles, while Samuel Cañas Guerrero and
Lucas Healy secured a win of their own in the No. 2 spot with a win over Arturo Asensio and Tomas Jimenez by a score of 8-7 (7-5).
Sean Gelski and
Andrew Day took care of business at No. 3 doubles with an 8-4 victory over Eliot Saint-Paul and Arthur Mendes to complete the sweep for Loras in doubles.
Unfortunately, the momentum from doubles play did not carry over to singles for the Duhawks as Kampmier was the only Duhawk to grab a win, taking down Fontenelle 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.
