GALENA, Ill. – The Loras College men's and women's golf teams opened up the spring portion of their seasons at the Clarke Spring Invite on Monday.
The two-day invite was cut short due to inclement weather, but the Duhawks came out strong in the first round, which earned them some impressive early season finishes.
On the women's side, the Purple and Gold placed fifth as a team with a score of 385.
Jenna Bistline led the pack and grabbed her first collegiate win after shooting an 80, while Elle Pechan checked in next for Loras with a 99 through 18 holes.
Autumn Allen and Kat Looney carded a 100 and 106 respectively, while Bri Baron rounded out the Loras scorecard with a 108.
The top squad for the University of Dubuque took home the tournament title, shooting a 335, while the Waldorf University women secured a second-place finish with a team score of 348. Dubuque's second team finished third with a 362 and Carthage College claimed the fourth spot, finishing just three strokes in front of the Duhawks with a 382.
On the men's side, the top-five for Loras earned a second-place finish as a team with a score of 319, while the second and third Duhawk teams checked into seventh and ninth place respectively with scores of 341 and 353.
Keagan Wurth and
William Schimbke led the way individually for the Purple and Gold shooting 77 apiece, putting them in a five-way tie for third place.
Noah Nabb followed closely behind with a 78, while
Will Coohey and
Doug Custis completed the remainder of the scorecard with an 87 and 88 respectively.
The first Dubuque team followed suit with its women's squad, earning a first-place finish with a team score of 302. The second Spartan squad checked into third place with a 322, three strokes behind the Duhawks.
