DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College softball team split its series with Wartburg College Tuesday afternoon at Faber-Clark Field.
Game One: Loras 3, Wartburg 1
Loras (18-14 overall, 5-7 American Rivers Conference) scored all three of its runs in the second inning, while Wartburg (21-12 7-3) recorded its lone run in the fifth. Neither team was able to plate a run in the final two innings.
Ava Franklin and
Emily Monahan were both able to reach base to start the second inning. After a Wartburg error, both Franklin and Monahan advanced an extra base before
Gillian Jones cleared the bases with a double to center field. During the very next at bat,
Payton Meier switched places with Jones, delivering her own RBI double to give the Duhawks a 3-0 lead.
Wartburg got a run back in the fifth, but that would be the only run that
Ashlyn Hemm would allow. Hemm threw all seven innings, allowing five hits and striking out nine en route to her ninth win of the year.
Game Two: Loras 0, Wartburg 1
Game two was dominated by defense and pitching as neither team was able to string hits together. Hemm led the way for Loras again as she held the Knights offense to three hits, while Avery Mull and Ashley Nelson held the Duhawks scoreless.
Wartburg was able to get a two-out hit off the bat of Ella Link to score the game's only run in the first inning.
Up Next: The Duhawks will travel to Pella, Iowa to take on Central College on Saturday, April 27. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
