CLEVELAND – After another outstanding year of athletics, Loras College has placed 24
th in the LEARFIELD Directors' Cup Standings for the 2023-24 academic year. Outside of the 2019-20 cancelation of the annual awards due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year marks the sixth consecutive year in which the Duhawks earned a top-25 distinction, dating back to 2017.
The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
John Hopkins University secured its second-straight first place finish in the standings after the Blue Jays totaled 1,090 points – scoring in 17 total sports, which included nine teams with top-10 finishes. Williams finished second with 1,026.08 points, followed by Emory with 1009 points. Rounding out the top-five was Tufts in fourth with 992.5 points and NYU in fifth at 964.50 points.
Loras' athletic programs combined to score 567.08 points, including 185 from the recently concluded spring semester. Women's track and field, which placed fourth at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, earned 80 of those points while the men's volleyball team earned 60 after its trip to the NCAA Tournament. The men's track program earned 45 points following its performance at the outdoor championships.
The Purple and Gold finished second among institutions in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) as Wartburg College finished 17
th. Central College was the next closest A-R-C school to Loras in the rankings, as the Dutch finished 39
th. Coe, Dubuque, and Nebraska Wesleyan rounded out A-R-C programs in the top-100 with rankings of 77, 86, and 97, respectively.
