November 14, 2025

Box Score

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The Loras College men's basketball team picked up a hard-fought road victory on Friday night, topping Blackburn College 71-66 in a tight contest defined by hustle plays, second-chance scoring, and a dominant effort on the glass.

The Duhawks (2-1) overcame a cold shooting night by controlling the boards and capitalizing on extra possessions. Loras outrebounded the Beavers 44-27, including an impressive 18 offensive rebounds, which led to 17 second-chance points.

The bench proved to be a major difference as well, out scoring Blackburn's reserves 38-4.

Deng Makeer led all scorers with 20 points, hitting six three-pointers to fuel the Loras offense. Dylan Kurt added 15 points and was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line, while Jack Haynes powered the interior with a massive 13-point, 16-rebound double-double.

Despite shooting just 36.9 percent from the field, the Duhawks found ways to stay in front thanks to their defensive pressure. Loras forced 21 turnovers and turned them into 25 points, a key factor in keeping the Beavers from taking control despite their efficient 52.1 percent shooting night.

The teams traded momentum throughout the game, with Loras holding a narrow 32-31 edge at the half. Blackburn continued to challenge in the paint, outscoring the Duhawks 38-30 inside, but struggled from beyond the arc and went just 3-of-12 from deep.

Up Next: The Duhawks continue their road trip as they take on the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana on Sunday, Nov. 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
