NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Loras College women's wrestling team competed at the Gator "Boots" Duals on Friday, Dec. 19, with
Kylie Loffer,
Emely Mejia Garcia,
Izabella Peters, and
Lucy Read representing the Duhawks.
At 103 pounds, Loffer battled through five matches, earning a win by forfeit in her fourth bout. She fell to Jordan Epstein of Huntingdon College (11-0, tech fall, 2:41), Chloe Simmons of Randolph University (10-0, tech fall, 1:14) and Madeline Gavares of Ursinus College (5-0, tech fall, 0:19), before closing the day against Emaline Hicks of Simpson College, the nation's No. 4-ranked wrestler at 103 pounds, in a 10-0 technical fall at 0:44. Simpson entered the event ranked No. 14 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Top 25.
Mejia Garcia competed at 110 pounds, opening with a win by forfeit before dropping four matches to Alanna Jenning of Randolph (10-0, tech fall, 2:05), Shelby Fugate of Huntingdon (10-0, tech fall, 0:53), Abigail Fuglsang of Simpson (fall, 0:53) and Olivia Guy of Ursinus (10-0, tech fall, 1:33).
At 160 pounds, Peters faced a tough slate, falling to Charlotte Bowman of Ursinus (10-0, tech fall, 2:13), Emma Stephenson of Huntingdon (8-4, fall, 2:06), Emily Riopel of Randolph (9-6, fall, 2:29), Emma Hanrahan of Mount Union (10-0, fall, 2:17) and Haylee McGrew of Simpson (2-0, fall, 0:18).
Read rounded out the day at 180 pounds, dropping five bouts to Olivia Furlong of Simpson (2-0, fall, 0:21), Aniyah Griffin of Huntingdon (6-0, fall, 1:26), Lori Grimes of Mount Union (4-0, fall, 0:24), Sophia Butler of Randolph (4-0, fall, 1:47) and Jurelys Peguero Del Rosario (5-0, fall, 0:23).
