DUBUQUE, Iowa – Behind an 18-point effort from
Gavin Sarvis and four other Duhawks finishing in double figures, the Loras College men's basketball team took down Bethany Lutheran College 93-87 on Wednesday afternoon.
The two squads traded baskets trough the first 11 minutes of the game, but it was Bethany Lutheran (7-6 Overall, 0-0 UMAC) who took the games first big lead with 9-0 run before a layup from
Johnny Semany capped off a 13-0 run from Loras (9-4, 3-0 American Rivers Conference) to give them a 31-27 lead. The Duhawks led by as many as nine in the first half but took a five-point lead (44-39) into halftime.
Deng Makeer gave his team a 10-point lead after hitting back-to-back threes two minutes into the second half. After leading by double digits most of the second half, the Vikings cut the lead to three (84-81) with a three from Cooper Mensink with three minutes to go.
Jack Haynes delivered the dagger with an old fashioned three-point play with 20 seconds left to give Loras an eight-point lead and one last win in 2025.
Sarvis's 18-points led the Duhawks. Haynes finished with 17 points and seven rebounds while freshman
Brock Massey ended with 11 points. Semany and
Damyen Jackson each added 10 points for Loras.
The Vikings were led by Max Briggs who had a game-high 21 points on 3-of-6 shooting from deep. Jack Brockmann added 18 points while Will Walter finished with 14.
Up Next: The Duhawks will return to action on Jan. 3 to take on the Coe College Kohawks. Tip off is scheduled for 4 p.m. from Lillis Court.
