DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Loras College men's wrestling team hosted the Loras Open today, finishing with three-place winners.
At 125 lbs, junior
Wiley Jessup collected three wins throughout the tournament. He started off with a pin in under two minutes before losing in the quarterfinals. However, Jessup bounced back with back-to-back wins (2-1 decision and 19-4 tech fall) to put himself in the consolation semifinals. Jessup concluded the day with consecutive losses to earn him a sixth-place finish.
Junior
Allen Catour (157 lbs) went 3-2 on his way to fifth place. After dropping his first match, he rattled off two wins (pin in 6:13 and 9-0 major decision) to reach the consolation semis. Another loss sent him to the fifth-place match, but Catour ended his day strong, majoring his last opponent, 18-6.
At 184 lbs, junior
Kam Royster also placed sixth, following the same path as Jessup. He won his first match with a fall in 3:52 before falling in the quarterfinals. Yet, Royster responded with two straight wins (6-4 decision and pin in 6:10) to secure a placement. The Williamsburg, Iowa native also ended his day with successive losses.
The Duhawks are back in action on Friday, Feb. 7, as they host in-town rival, the University of Dubuque, for senior night. Action is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
