DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College men's basketball team secured the season sweep over the Luther College Norse with an 89-58 win on Wednesday night inside the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center.
The first eight minutes of play featured five lead changes and six ties. A three-pointer from
Nolan Berendes put the Duhawks in front 19-16, where they would stay for the remainder of the contest. Loras (17-7, 11-4 A-R-C) went into the locker room at the half with a 20-point advantage (48-28).
Luther (2-21, 1-14) cut the deficit to 15 twice, but the Purple and Gold responded with a 25-9 run in the final 7:12 to cruise to an 89-58 victory.
The Duhawks led a balanced offensive attack with
Tyler Bass,
Jack Haynes and Berendes finishing with 18 points apiece. Bass added a game-high three steals to his stat line, while Haynes recorded his sixth double-double of the season after pulling down 11 rebounds. As a team, Loras shot 48.5 percent (32-of-66) from the floor and 40.6 percent (13-of-32) from three.
Mikkel Schutte paced the Norse with 21 points. Aidan Bailey and Will Bockenstedt rounded out the double-digit scorers for Luther with 12 and 11 points respectively. Bockenstedt also grabbed 11 boards to register his first double-double of the year. The visitors shot 43.1 percent (22-of-51) from the field and 31.6 percent (6-of-19) from downtown.
