Men's Basketball Falls to Wartburg in Opening Round of A-R-C Tournament

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College men's basketball team concluded its 2024-25 season in the quarterfinals of the American Rivers Conference Tournament with a 96-86 loss to the No. 6-seeded Wartburg College Knights on Tuesday night.

A Jack Haynes dunk put the Duhawks on the board first just 10 seconds into the contest, but that was only lead Loras (17-9, 11-5 A-R-C) would ever hold. The Knights held the Purple and Gold to single digits (19-8) for the first 10:39 of play and increased their lead to as many as 20 over the course of the first half. Wartburg (16-10, 8-8) held a 16-point (39-23) advantage at the midway point.

The Duhawks used a tip-in layup from Haynes to cut the deficit to 14 points to start the second half, but the visitors always seemed to have an answer as they posted a 13-2 run in response to take their largest lead of the game, 52-27, with just over 15 minutes remaining. The Purple and Gold put themselves within eight in the final 23 seconds, but it was too little too late.

Tyler Bass led the way for Loras with 22 points and eight rebounds. Jared Pearson, Alex Singleton and Dylan Kurt added in 14, 13 and 10 points respectively off the bench, while Haynes finished with 12 points and nine boards on the night. As a team, the Duhawks shot 45.1 percent (32-of-71) from the floor and 82.6 percent (19-of-23) from the foul line.

Marshun Williams paced the Wartburg offense with 37 points, shooting 15-of-19 from the field. Austin Bienemann totaled 20 points, while Luke Ladwig, Gabe Trujillo and Richie Rosenblum contributed 14, 10 and 10 points respectively. The Knights shot 63.5 percent (33-of-52) from the floor and 64.7 percent (22-of-34) from the charity stripe.
