Story Links

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's basketball suffered a 72-53 loss to No. 13 Wartburg at Lillis Court on Wednesday evening.

To begin the game it was back and fourth as both teams battled through five ties and four lead changes in the first quarter. The Duhawks kept themselves in the game by scoring timely three-pointers, and scoring points in the paint, but the Knights went on a 4-0 run to end the first quarter with a 24-14 lead.

For the remainder of the first half Loras (8-12, 5-6) would tighten up defensively and hold Wartburg (19-2, 12-0) to 13 points in the second quarter, however the Duhawks were only able to score 12 points themselves, not enough to cut the deficit as they trailed by 11 as they went to the lockeroom.

The final two quarters were all Wartburg, Loras relied on outside shooting and were able to knock down key three-pointers, but it was not enough to shutdown the Knights as they sealed the deal with a 20 point fourth quarter.

Leading the Duhawks with points off the bench came by way of Kylie Rigby and Ashtyn Kelderman who each scored 11 points on the night. Rigby also dished out an assist and a steal while Kelderman grabbed one rebound and a steal. The home team shot 42.6 (20-47) percent from the floor and 50.0 (3-6 ) percent from the line.

The Knights were led by Lauren Woeste as she had a game-high 21 points in addition to six rebounds and an assist. Rounding out the double digit scorers for the Knights was Jaedon Murphy and Sara Faber, each scoring 14 points a piece. Murphy collected six rebounds and three assists while Faber earned four rebounds and five assists. As a team the Knights shot 58.8 (30-51) percent from the field and 75.0 (6-8) from the free-throw line.
