OSHKOSH, Wis. – The Loras College softball team dropped two games their weekend doubleheader. The Duhawks fell to #4 University of Wisconsin- Oshkosh and the University of Wisconsin- Superior on Saturday.
Game One: Loras 0, #4 UW-Oshkosh 4
Ava Franklin opened up game one with a leadoff double, followed by a base hit from
Dana Skorich to put runners on the corners with one out. However, the Titans defense came up big and was able to escape the inning without giving up a run.
After the Titan offense was able to plate two runs in the fourth inning, Sydney Nemetz and Brianna Bougie would combine to retire the last nine Duhawk hitters in order to close the game.
Game Two: Loras 3, UW-Superior 6
UW-Superior used a six run second inning to take control of the second half of the doubleheader for Loras. In the inning, the Duhawks committed two errors and gave up two walks which led to five unearned runs for the Yellowjackets.
The Duhawk offense came alive in the bottom half of the fifth inning thanks to a leadoff base hit from
Whitney Leipold. After an
Alyson Krogman SAC bunt, Franklin put the Purple and Gold on the scoreboard with an RBI double. Franklin would later come around to score after a Yellowjacket error, to cut the lead to four (6-2).
Much like the fifth inning, Leipold led off the seventh inning with a base hit before advancing to second on a groundout. Franklin got her second RBI of the game with her base hit to cut the lead in half (6-3). Ellie Macal put an end to the Loras comeback attempt when she would catch Franklin attempting to steal third for the final out of the game.
Up Next: Loras will travel to Kissimmee, Fla. to take part in THE Spring Games. The Duhawks will play 10 games from March 10-15 with the first game being against Meredith College. First pitch for that contest is scheduled for 9:00 AM.
