BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The No. 11 Loras College men's volleyball team defeated the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans in straight sets for the second time this week on Saturday evening inside the Shirk Center.
The Duhawks led for the entirety of the first set after putting down three consecutive kills to open the match. Loras (17-4, 8-2 CCIW) extended its lead to as many as seven multiple times over the course of the set, ultimately taking the set by a score of 25-19.
Despite trailing 1-0 early on, the Purple and Gold strung together an 8-0 run to take an 8-1 lead.
Nolan Krygsheld's kill sealed the decisive 25-11 set two victory for the Duhawks.
Neither squad led by more than two until the final five points of the third set. Loras broke the final tie at 19-19 with a 5-0 run to take a 24-19 lead. The Duhawks completed the sweep with a 25-20 set three win.
Corey Mayotte put down a match-high 12 kills, adding three service aces to his stat line as well. Krygsheld registered nine kills, five blocks and seven digs, while
Evan Dziadkowiec handed out 31 assists. As a team, Loras hit .382, finishing with 35 kills and nine errors in 68 attempts.
Trey Marek led the way for the Titans with 10 kills. Vince DiCosola dished out 13 assists and totaled four digs, while Bryce Williams tallied three service aces and five kills on the night. As a team, Illinois Wesleyan hit -.0-13, which featured 21 kills and 22 errors in 77 attempts.
