WAVERLY, Iowa – The Loras College women's volleyball team fell, 3-1, in its conference-opener against Wartburg College on Tuesday evening inside Levick Arena.
Wartburg (11-5 overall, 2-0 A-R-C) led by as many as five (14-9) in the opening set, but the Duhawks found a way to close the gap to knot the score up at 24-24. A kill from Anna Sash and a Loras (4-12, 0-1) attack error gave the home team a narrow 26-24 set one win.
Neither team led by more than two in the second set until the Purple and Gold rattled off six straight points to take a 13-8 lead. The Knights tied the score up five times before a kill from
Patrycja Jarzabek and a well-timed setting error by Wartburg sealed the 27-25 set two victory for the Duhawks.
Loras used a 10-3 run in the third set to hold a 22-16 advantage over the Knights, but Wartburg responded with a six-point run of their own, erasing the deficit and tying the score up at 22 apiece. A Duhawk attack error and a service ace secured the 26-24 set three win for the home team.
The Knights broke the final tie at 16-16 with a 7-2 run to take a 23-18 lead in the fourth set. The Duhawks cut the lead to just two (23-21) but kills from Kaylee Anderson and Sash gave Wartburg the 25-21 set four win to take the match 3-1.
Autumn Finch and
Elaina Schroeder put down 10 kills apiece, while
Cat Meyer added in seven of her own.
Emily Mohr dished out 20 assists on the night, while
Iva Senio and
Lucie Lambe led the Purple and Gold defense with 21 and 20 digs respectively. As a team, Loras hit .063, finishing with 48 kills and 36 errors in 190 attempts.
