PELLA, Iowa — Four Loras College women's wrestlers competed Saturday at the American Rivers Conference Wrestling Championships, hosted by Central College.
Lucy Read led the Duhawks with a third-place finish at 207 pounds. Read opened the tournament against Wartburg's Rewa Chababo, falling by pin in 44 seconds, and later dropped a match to Buena Vista's Ella Brown by fall in 1 minute, 23 seconds. Read rebounded to earn a podium finish and a top-three placement in the conference.
Kylie Loffer competed at 103 pounds for Loras. She fell by forfeit to Wartburg's Chloe Sheffield and Simpson's Emaline Hicks before closing the tournament with a 12–1 loss by technical fall to the University of Dubuque's Grace Murphy in 4:38.
At 110 pounds,
Emely Mejia Garcia faced a deep field and wrestled five matches. She fell to Central College's Gracie Pattison by default, 8–0, in 3:00, and to the University of Dubuque's Sara Schroder by technical fall, 10–0, in 3:20. Mejia Garcia also competed against Wartburg's Afftynn Stusse, falling by technical fall in 54 seconds, Simpson's Sarah Zimerman by technical fall in 37 seconds, and Wartburg's Ava Gardner by technical fall in 1:40.
Grace Patterson wrestled at 138 pounds and recorded a win during the championships. She opened with a 4–1 loss by fall to Luther's Lucy Miller in 1:40 and a 12–1 loss by technical fall to Central College's Esther Belzer in 2:42. Patterson responded with a victory over Central's Cameron Halbur, winning by fall in 44 seconds, before concluding the tournament with a 12–0 loss by fall to Buena Vista's Savannah Freifeld in 1:14.
