KENOSHA, Wis. – The Loras College men's soccer team returned to the win column Saturday afternoon, earning a 1-0 road victory over Carthage College at Art Keller Field.
Noah Smithgave the Duhawks the lead in the 29th minute. The sophomore found the back of the net off an assist from Ernesto Silva to put Loras in front, 1-0. The goal was Smith's first of the season and ultimately stood as the game-winner.
Carthage generated more pressure in the second half, but the Loras defense held firm. Alexander Drexler came up with a save on Emmitt Hansen in the 66th minute as the Firebirds searched for the equalizer.
The Firebirds produced one final opportunity in the closing seconds, but the Duhawk defense preserved the clean sheet to secure the 1-0 road victory.
Loras finished with a 13-5 advantage in shots and put seven attempts on goal compared to three for Carthage. The Duhawks also held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Smith led Loras with two shots on goal and recorded the game's lone goal, while Silva finished with an assist and put his only shot on frame. Sieg, Keen, Lopez and Grandgeorge also recorded shots on goal for the Duhawks.
Drexler played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded the shutout, making one credited save as Loras picked up its seventh victory of the season
