DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's tennis team closed out its Senior Day doubleheader in convincing fashion Saturday, earning a pair of 6-1 victories over Simpson College and Greenville University.
The Duhawks opened the day against American Rivers Conference opponent Simpson College, sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the opening point.
Megan Covelli and
Gemma Zeckser rolled to a 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles, while
Saydie Roling and
Clara LeConte earned a 6-2 win at No. 2.
Mary Breitbach, the lone Duhawk senior, and
Brooke Burger completed the sweep with a tightly contested 7-6 victory at No. 1, winning the tiebreak 12-10.
Loras carried that momentum into singles play, taking five of the six matches. Burger was first off the court with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 5, while Covelli followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4. Breitbach cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the top spot, LeConte posted a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 6 and Roling rounded out the Duhawks' singles victories with a 7-5, 6-3 decision at No. 2.
The Duhawks followed with another strong performance against Greenville, once again sweeping doubles play. Breitbach and Burger picked up a 6-3 victory at No. 1, Covelli and Zeckser won 6-4 at No. 3 and Roling and LeConte battled to a 7-5 victory at No. 2.
Loras claimed five more singles victories to finish off its second 6-1 win of the day. Breitbach surrendered just two games in a 6-0, 6-2 victory to cap off her senior day. At No. 1, while Covelli won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3.
Noor Kassas earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 4, Burger took No. 5 by a 6-4, 6-0 score and LeConte completed an undefeated day with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
