DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's soccer team opened American Rivers Conference play in convincing fashion Wednesday evening, cruising to a 5-0 victory over Wartburg College at the Rock Bowl.
Loras controlled the match from the opening whistle, generating 12 shots in the first half while holding Wartburg without an attempt. Despite creating several scoring opportunities, the Duhawks were unable to break through until the closing moments of the period.
With just 23 seconds remaining before halftime, Ciara Johnson found the back of the net off an assist from Izzy Simonini to give Loras a 1-0 advantage heading into the break.
The Duhawks wasted little time adding to their lead in the second half. Just 58 seconds after the restart, Emily Bowe scored off a feed from Emerson Gasmann to double the advantage. The duo connected again in the 55th minute as Bowe recorded her second goal of the evening, extending the Loras lead to 3-0.
Johnson added her second goal of the match in the 63rd minute, finishing an opportunity created by Bella Scesniak. Gasmann capped the scoring in the 77th minute, finding the back of the net off an assist from Lauren Frost to secure the 5-0 victory.
Loras dominated the statistical categories, outshooting Wartburg 18-1 and holding a 12-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Duhawk defense kept the Knights off the scoreboard for all 90 minutes to complete the shutout.
Up Next: Loras will return to the Rock Bowl on Oct. 10 to take on Nebraska Wesleyan University. Match time is set for 5 p.m.
