TOPEKA, Kan. –
Ryan Quinlan and
Colin Kissane combined to go 5-for-9 with four RBI to help the Duhawks coast to a 10-2 victory in the series finale against Macalester.
Loras (2-1, 0-0 A-R-C) used another great outing from a starting pitcher to jump out to an early lead.
Vincent Costantino was able to hold Macalester (1-2, 0-0 MIAC) at bay for five innings while the Duhawks warmed up their bats.
It was
Vince McDowell who got the Duhawks off and running first, as he smacked an RBI single to center with two outs in the second inning, scoring Kissane. Then a duo of dingers from Quinlan in the fourth and sixth put the Purple and Gold up five.
A slight rally from Macalester (1-2, 0-0 MIAC) was subdued in the eighth when Loras loaded up the bases and worked station-to-station, scoring five with
Jack Carney,
Vince Polizzi, and
Jackson Cullen providing RBI.
The relief trio of
Lucas Weiner,
Harry Young, and
Ethan Rogers put together meaningful innings to secure a series win in the rubber match.
Back-to-back… Back-to-back?
Kissane and Quinlan's back-to-back games with two homers is the first time two different players have done that in Loras baseball's recorded history, and the second time two players have done that in the same series. The last was
Cody Sunny and Daniel Rogers in 2024.
On Deck: The Duhawks travel to Greenville, Ill. on Friday, Feb. 27 for a series against Greenville University. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
