MADISON, Wis. – The Loras College women's tennis team split a pair of matches against the University of Northwestern (Minn.0 and Edgewood University. The Duhwks defeated Northwestern (Minn.) 6-1, before falling to Edgewood 4-3.
Loras 6, University of Northwestern (Minn.) 1
Alexis Tatumn and
Lauren Keiper gave the Duhawks the first doubles win with their 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles. After falling at the No. 1 spot,
Saydie Roling and
Brooke Burger won 6-2 at No. 2 doubles and gave Loras a 1-0 lead going into singles.
The Duhawks went on to win five of the six singles matches en route to the victory.
Mary Breitbach was a winner at No. 1 over Sarah Langridge, 6-1, 6-1.
Megan Covelli won 6-2, 7-5 over Hannah Hyttsten at No. 3, while Roling got a win over Anne Clarke at No. 4. Keiper and Burger completed the win at No. 5 and 6 with 6-3, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-1 wins, respectively.
Loras 2, Edgewood University 4
Neither duo was able to get a win in doubles play, sending Loras into singles down 1-0.
In singles, Breitbach and Burger were responsible for the two Duhawk points against the Eagles. Breitbach took down Evelyn Taylor, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 at No. 1 singles and Burger was a winner at No. 6 with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Lauryn Krober. Keiper brought home the final point for the Purple and Gold, defeating Christina Ekkela 7-5, 4-6, 1-0
Up Next: Loras will travel to Neenah, Wis. to face off against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Ripon College on Sunday, Feb. 22. The Duhawks will take on UWSP at 9 a.m. followed by Ripon at 1 p.m.
