KENOSHA, Wis. – The No. 10 Loras College men's volleyball team fell to the No. 3 Carthage College Firebirds in a CCIW matchup on Saturday inside Tarble Arena.
The Duhawks fought closely with the Firebirds in the first set as it was tied at 10-10 after 20 serves. Carthage (12-2 overall, 3-0 CCIW) was able to pull away, making the score 18-14 after a 4-1 run. The Firebirds would go on to take the first set, 25-20.
The Firebirds quickly jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the second set. Loras (12-3, 1-2) was unable to claim a lead and Carthage took the second set, 25-16.
Carthage, once again, jumped out to an early lead in the third set, 9-4. The Duhawks were able to cu the deficit to two (22-20) late in the final set, but this effort from the Purple and Gold was not enough as Carthage would take a 25-23 set three victory to secure the sweep.
Loras was led by Elijah Passey with 10 kills, two blocks, and an ace. Connor Jaral and Bo Brainerd III followed with six kills apiece, while Evan Dziadkowiec pitched in 27 assists and led the squad with three blocks.
Up Next: The Duhawks are slated to take on the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans on Wednesday, March 4. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center.
