DAVENPORT, Fla.- The Duhawks remained stagnant on offense and couldn't recover from a rough opening frame as they lost their final game in Florida, 6-2.
Loras (6-6, 0-0 A-R-C) had a disastrous first inning, with a quick top half, and University of Wisconsin-River Falls (1-0, 0-0 WIAC) notching five runs on three hits.
Starting pitcher
Adam Williamson was forced out with an injury midway through the first and in his place,
Carson Hammer entered.
Hammer dealt out seven strikeouts and didn't allow a single free base in what was one of the best pitching performances we've seen all season.
In the third,
Vince Polizzi whacked his third homer of the season, scoring
Jackson Cullen, pulling the Purple and Gold just a little bit closer.
Despite the rising momentum, and Hammer's unbelievable effort, Loras just never found enough offense to get within striking distance.
Isiah Rose would go 3-for-4, and the relief combo of
Lucas Weiner and
Dylan Ackermann would stave off the Falcons, but the Purple and Gold quietly exited stage left.
On Deck: The Duhawks return to the Midwest, and they have a meeting with Augustana College on Tuesday, March 17 before heading into conference play. First pitch at Augustana is set for 6:00 p.m.
