DECORAH, Iowa – The Duhawks got stiff-armed by the Norse in a 6-3 loss that saw Luther maintain control throughout.
The Purple and Gold cycled through four pitchers as the staff didn't quite have touch on the mound Tuesday afternoon.
Despite that, they did enough to threaten Luther (15-7, 5-3 A-R-C) in the fourth, when
Jake Zeal would reach on an infield single to the shortstop, and
Vince Polizzi would hit his sixth round-tripper of the year to pull Loras (10-10, 4-3 A-R-C) back within one.
Even with the Duhawks clawing their way back, the Norse kept their cool with a big fifth inning that plated a couple more runs to get the lead out to three.
They'd add another in the sixth before the Purple and Gold finally turned the heat back up in the eighth. Zeal would send one to the trees in left field and Polizzi followed with a triple. However, the Duhawks couldn't convert the opportunity, and a strikeout ended the threat.
Despite a commendable relief effort from
Aiden O'Hara and a couple nice hitting performances from
Cody Sunny,
Jack Carney, and
Vince McDowell, the Duhawks would fall quietly and drop their third A-R-C contest of the season.
Up Next: Weather permitting, the Purple and Gold face off with the Stars of Dominican University on Thursday, April 2. It also represents senior night for Loras. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., with senior day festivities in-between games.
