Duhawks Pile Up Personal Bests and Event Wins Across Midweek Meets

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Loras College men's track and field team opened the week at the Rittgers Invitational, hosted by Coe College on Wednesday, April 22.

In the 100 meters, the Duhawks recorded multiple personal-best performances. Louis Zeitler (11.22), Tre'jon Igess (11.32), Logan Day (11.33), Isaac Oster (11.76) and James Kostomiris (12.37) each set new personal records, while Daken Pessman posted a season-best time of 11.27.

Ian Fagan led the way in the 200 meters, placing fifth with a personal-best time of 21.51. Zeitler (22.58), Day (22.76), Jonah Irving (23.10), Oster (23.45) and Kostomiris (24.63) all added personal-best efforts, while Blake Fitzgerrel recorded a season-best 23.40.

Irving added another personal best in the 400 meters (52.92), and Jack Beehler notched a personal-best 2:00.27 in the 800 meters.

In the hurdles, Andrew Schlemme clocked a personal-best 15.94 in the 110-meter hurdles, while Owen Scherff posted a season-best 16.55. Matthew Hanselman added a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.95.

Isaac Bourne highlighted the distance events with a first-place finish and season-best time of 3:59.23 in the 1,500 meters. Beehler added a season-best 4:04.01, while Vince Frederiksen (4:21.60), Ethan Stasch (4:33.08) and Everett McDonald (4:34.14) each recorded personal-best times.

Colby Cryer claimed the 3,000-meter with a personal-best time of 8:49.02. Jack Ruswick (9:40.60) and Ben Ritter (9:41.56) also posted personal-best performances.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Hanselman, Owen Leitzen, Enoch Theilhelm and Gavin Denholm placed second with a personal-best time of 3:33.18.

In the field events, Nick Pierro (45.83m) and Braxton Nelson (24.85m) set personal-best marks in the hammer throw. Eli Pflipsen placed third in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 15.90 meters, while Pierro added a personal-best 14.55 meters. Nelson (29.68m) and Ted Dost (29.68m) each recorded personal-best throws in the discus.

Steve Edwards posted a personal-best mark of 6.16 meters in the long jump, and Ahmari Meeks-Miller recorded a personal-best 13.62 meters in the triple jump.

Earlier in the week, select Duhawks competed at the Wartburg Triangular on Tuesday, April 21. Aiden Ruiz placed third in the 1,500 meters with a personal-best time of 3:53.76.

DreAnthony Jackson won the shot put with a mark of 16.79 meters, while Carter Allen followed with a personal-best 15.17 meters. Allen added victories in the discus (51.34m) and hammer throw (season-best 54.64m), while Jackson placed second in the hammer (51.08m). Ian Lucas recorded a season-best throw of 44.31 meters in the javelin.

Up Next: Loras returns to action Friday and Saturday, April 24-25, competing at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa and the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa.
