WAVERLY, Iowa – The game one woes continued for the Purple and Gold, as the Knights hit a pair of grand slams in the first two innings to cruise to a victory, 16-0.
The pitching staff for Loras (17-15, 11-8 A-R-C) had command issues early, and Wartburg (18-13, 9-10 A-R-C) took advantage of each and every opportunity.
The Duhawks faced bases loaded situations in three of the first four innings, and every time the Knights were able to cash in.
Offensively, the Purple and Gold only managed one baserunner through their first nine batters. Fortunately, the second time through the order they were able to collect hit number one, thanks to a
Vince Polizzi single to left.
There were just three hits in total for Loras, with
Johnny Dwyer and
Liam Sullivan smacking the other two. Unfortunately, no baserunner ever got past second.
Both sides of the baseball were flat in what was ultimately a seven-inning shutout of the Duhawks, just the second time they've been shutout this season.
On Deck: The Purple and Gold eye revenge tomorrow against the Knights, with first pitch of the remaining two games of the series set for 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
