DES MOINES, Iowa – Select members of the Loras College track and field team competed at the Drake Relays and Kip Janvrin Invitational, highlighted by a pair of school-record performances.
The distance quartet of Isaac Bourne, Aiden Ruiz, Cameron Gotto and Max Lowe rewrote the program record in the 4x1600-meter relay, finishing in 17:08.38. Caitlyn Cox added to the historic weekend in the hammer throw, breaking the school record with a personal-best mark of 57.84 meters to place fifth.
Loras also claimed a pair of relay titles at Drake. The distance medley relay team of Ruiz, Ian Fagan, Gotto and Bourne took first place with a time of 10:06.15, while Katie Flynn, Layla Hughes, Rosie Flynn and Keelee Leitzen captured the sprint medley in 4:01.33.
The Duhawks continued to stack strong relay performances as the men's 4x200-meter team of Fagan, Zeke Irving, Charlie Irwin and Casey Tath placed fourth with a time of 1:26.16, the second-fastest in program history. The women's 4x400-meter relay of Katie Flynn, Hughes, Rosie Flynn and Keelee Leitzen added an eighth-place finish with a season-best time of 3:48.16, while the men's 4x400-meter group of Fagan, Irving, Tath and Owen Leitzen posted a season-best 3:15.20.
In the field, DreAnthony Jackson recorded a 10th-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 16.35 meters.
At the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa, the Duhawks continued their momentum with several personal-best performances. Ryan McGrath and Evan Schlichting each set new marks in the 5,000 meters, finishing in 15:15.25 and 15:28.48, respectively. Brayden Frey added a personal-best effort in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with times of 9:37.05.
Up Next: Loras returns to action at the American Rivers Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Pella, Iowa, scheduled for April 30 through May 2.
