ANGOLA, Ind. — Behind a dominate performance from
Kaili Henning in the circle, and timely hits from
Laurissa Klapatauskas, the Loras College softball team advanced to the NCAA Regional Final on Friday.
The Duhawks took down the No. 4-ranked and defending national champions Trine University, 2-0.
The only runs of the game came from a two-out rally in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Ava Franklin walked to lead off the frame before back-to-back strikeouts from the Duhawks stopped some momentum.
Dana Skorich reached first on a Trine fielding error. Then pinch running for Skorich,
Bailey Welu stole second to put two runners in scoring position for Klapatauskas.
The senior delivered the biggest hit of the year with her two RBI single to put Loras on the board.
The two runs would be more than enough for Henning. The sophomore bounced back from yesterday's performance, tossing a three-hit shutout that included six strikeouts and only one walk.
Up Next: The Duhawks will play for the regional championship tomorrow against either the University of Rochester (NY), or Trine University. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. with a "if necessary" game to follow.
