CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Loras fought hard until the end but couldn't get the bats rolling in a 6-2 loss to No. 1 seeded Luther College.
In the first inning the Norse plated two runs against
Vincent Costantino. After that, the junior found his groove and sprinkled around three hits over the next four innings while striking out three.
In the fifth, Loras (19-21, 12-12 A-R-C) finally found some offense thanks to a
Jake Zeal double to deep left-center, scoring a run and pulling the Purple and Gold within one.
Â
After a pitching change in the sixth though, Luther (32-10, 19-5 A-R-C) exploded with a trio of runs, pulling the game further out of reach.
Â
The Duhawks didn't have another answer for the Norse right-hander until the ninth inning, as
Ben Shea drove in
Colin Kissane to briefly keep Loras afloat.
Â
Unfortunately, it was too little, too late for the Purple and Gold and they would bow out of the tournament after going 1-2 in the postseason.
