DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's tennis team fell to the University of Dubuque, 7-0, in American Rivers Conference action on Wednesday.
The Spartans opened the match by sweeping doubles play to secure the opening point. Mary Breitbach and Brooke Burger battled Molly Jex and Salalee Seejong at No. 1 doubles before falling 6-4. Saydie Roling and Clara LeConte also dropped a 6-4 decision at No. 2, while Megan Covelli and Gemma Zeckser fell 6-3 in the No. 3 spot.
Dubuque carried the momentum into singles play, winning all six matches. Breitbach put together a strong effort at No. 1, taking the second set to a tiebreak before falling to Seejong, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). Roling pushed Jex to three sets at No. 2, winning the second set 6-4 before ultimately falling 6-3, 4-6, 6-0.
Noor Kassas also went the distance at No. 3 singles. Kassas claimed a first-set tiebreak, 7-6 (7-2), before Sarah Wilde responded with a 6-3 second-set victory and took the deciding match tiebreak, 10-4.
Covelli fell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4, while Burger battled through a first-set tiebreak in a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 loss at No. 5. LeConte rounded out the lineup with a 7-5, 6-2 setback at No. 6.
