OSHKOSH, Wis. – The Loras College women's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals and a strong defensive performance to earn a 2-0 victory over UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
The two sides battled through a scoreless opening 45 minutes despite Loras generating several opportunities. The Duhawks outshot the Titans 8-3 in the first half, with Emerson Gasmann forcing a save in the 13th minute before Kaitlin Glenn sent an attempt off the crossbar less than two minutes later. Kelly Nelsen made two saves at the other end to keep UW-Oshkosh off the board.
Loras finally broke through in the 57th minute when Lauren Frost helped create a opportunity for Gracie Gasmann, who found the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season to put the Duhawks ahead 1-0.
The Duhawks added some insurance in the 78th minute when Caroline Chalberg scored her first goal of the season. Gasmann provided the assist on the goal, giving her three points on the afternoon and extending the Loras advantage to 2-0.
Loras finished with a 12-10 advantage in total shots and put four attempts on goal compared to six for UW-Oshkosh. The Duhawks also held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks. Gasmann led the offense with a goal and an assist, while Chalberg scored on one of her two shots.
Kelly Nelson earned the clean sheet in goal, recording six saves for Loras in her first start of the season.
Up Next: The Duhawks will travel to Whitewater, Wis, on Sept. 30 to take on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
