WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Loras College women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday afternoon, falling 3-0 to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at Robert W. Fiskum Field.
The Warhawks broke through late in the opening period when Genevieve Simkowski finished a cross from Jenna Laidlaw in the 43rd minute, sending UW-Whitewater into halftime with a 1-0 advantage. Brinley Dunsirn also picked up an assist on the play.
The Warhawks extended their lead in the 57th minute when Brooklynn Carlson found the upper corner off an assist from Emily Taylor. Dunsirn added the final goal in the 76th minute to make it 3-0.
Allie Stubbendick provided some of Loras' best chances off the bench, finishing with a team-high four shots and placing two on goal.
Emerson Gasmann and
Gracie Gasmann each recorded three shots, while
Ciara Johnson and
Kaitlin Glenn also put attempts on frame.
The Duhawks finished with a slight 16-15 advantage in shots and held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks, but UW-Whitewater placed eight shots on goal compared to four for Loras. Nelsen finished the afternoon with five saves in 90 minutes of action.
Up Next: Loras will take on Wartburg College on Oct. 7. Kickoff from the Rock Bowl is set for 5 p.m.
