Duhawks Turn in Strong Performance at Cornell Invite

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Loras College men's tennis team opened the 2026 fall season at the Cornell Invite, competing against multiple teams throughout the day.

Loras put together a strong day in singles action, highlighted by multiple players earning straight-set victories.

Abhyudit Nagar picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Central's Ernest Alvarez Chedzoy. Horia Popa also earned a win against Central, defeating Gavin Jablonski 6-2, 6-4.

Joao Pedro Oliveira bounced back from a three-set battle against Central's F. Molina Centeno to earn a straight-set victory over Cornell's Henry Lambley, 6-3, 7-5. Sean Sonoiki joined him in the win column with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Cornell's Gavin Collyott.

The Duhawks continued to find success throughout the lineup. Pedro Conci Rodrigues turned in a perfect 2-0 singles day, defeating UW-Stevens Point's Ayden Knuth 6-2, 6-2 before taking down Central's Hayden Sinclair 6-2, 6-4.

Jimmy Krcmarik also went unbeaten in his two singles matches, earning a 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 win over UW-Stevens Point's Augie Nelson before cruising past Cornell's Kai Kenna, 6-1, 6-1.

Andrew Day defeated Central's Joseph Wright 6-2, 6-4, while Nick Carney rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Cornell's Matt Oshiro. Zander Freeman added a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Cornell's Benett Gregor.

Further down the lineup, Charlie Dobbs battled to a three-set victory over UW-Stevens Point's Nicholas Miller, winning 6-3, 0-6, 10-8. Luke Gogolewski earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory over UW-Stevens Point's Cooper Meyer, while Jackson Craig defeated Central's Rex Olsan 6-0, 6-3.

In doubles action, Hayden Martin and Jaimes Palmer defeated Cornell's Braeden Holmes and Trace Turner, 6-4, while Nagar and Sam Canas teamed up for a 6-4 victory over Cornell's Turner and Drew Campbell.

The Duhawks continued their success with Jackson Craig and Krcmarik earning a 6-2 victory over Central's Donovan Klish and Hayden Sinclair.

Sonoiki and Carney were particularly strong in doubles play, earning a pair of victories. The duo defeated Cornell's Gavin Collyott and Matt Oshiro 6-3 before taking down Central's Brody Ferrell and F. Molina Centeno 6-2.

Evan Fine and Freeman added a 6-3 win over Central's Connery Varsa and Rex Olsan, while Diego Hernandez and Jack Seda closed out their doubles action with a 7-5 victory over UW-Stevens Point's Cooper Meyer and Braeden Sinden.

Up Next: The Duhawks will return to the court on Sept. 20 to take on the University of Dubuque from Frank Faber Tennis Courts.
