After almost 20 years, Bower returns to his alma mater and the campus of Loras College where he was a four-year letter winner and starting linebacker for the Duhawks. Bower graduated with a degree in history in 1993 and while working towards his masters degree in physical education, served a graduate assistant and linebackers coach for Loras from 1993-95. He continued on the staff under Loras Hall of Fame Coach Bob Bierie as the defensive coordinator from 1996 to 1999.

As the Defensive Coordinator, Coach Greg Bower led the 2022 Duhawk defense to number three in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) in sacks and interceptions and to the top of the conference in stopping teams on third down. The defense accumulated 93.5 tackles for a loss for a total of 417 yards. The defense also had 29 sacks. He coached Joey Foley, Josh Kieffer, Mason Morris, Zach Kemp, and Elijah Dertz to A-R-C All-Conference honors on the defensive side of the ball. Foley also earned Second Team All-Region from D3Football.com.

"Duhawk Football is excited to bring Greg Bower back to campus! Greg brings a wealth of knowledge to our program having coached at many different levels of college football while gaining valuable insight working with every position group on defense," Helminiak said. "His background as a coordinator of defense and special teams was extremely important as we wanted to bring in highly experienced individual who has coached at successful programs. Greg's familiarity with Loras College will help make the transition smooth and seamless."

Bower spent five seasons at the University of Minnesota-Duluth in Duluth, Minn. as the defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator. Previously, Bower was the defensive coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in addition to an eight-year stint on the staff at Northern Illinois. His time with the Huskies began as a defensive graduate assistant in 2000 and expanded to his role with the defensive tackles and eventually to the offensive side of the ball where he worked with tight ends and served as the camp coordinator.

Bower lives in Cascade, Iowa with his wife Liz, a 1996 Loras graduate, and their three children Brett ('23), Faith, and Grace.Â
