Jon Powers, a native of Dubuque, Iowa, begins his 10th season as a coach for Loras College after recently being named Offensive Coordinator in January of 2026. Powers will continue to work with the wide receivers along with coaching the tight ends. Previously, Powers served as the Co-Special Teams Coordinator since 2020 along with working with the receivers.
In 2023, Powers helped take Da'Mani Brown's game to a new level, as the junior wideout scored a school-record 20 touchdowns and racked up 1,070 yards. Brown went on to earn First Team All-Conference honors and was named Third Team All-Region by D3football.com. Brown finished the year ranked third all-time in program history in yards (2,371), set a single game record in touchdowns with five, set single season records in receptions (83), touchdowns (20), and became the program's all-time leader in pass reception touchdowns (33).
In the fall of 2022, the receiving duo of Brown and Marty McGovern cemented their names in the Loras record books. The tandem finished fifth and seventh for single season receptions.
Powers coached two of the American Rivers Conference’s top wide receivers in Brad Boelkow and Sam Maloney in 2018; respectively finishing second and fourth in yards per game. Boelkow finished his career as the third all-time leader in yards.
In 2017, Powers coached the tight ends & running backs to a very productive year. In 2017, the Duhawk offense averaged over 430 yards per game and 33 points per game. Tight end, Mike Kuhn, was one of seven different Duhawks in double digits for receptions.
Playing from 2013-16 Powers concluded his Duhawk career as the single season record holder for receptions in a season with 82. He sits seventh all-time in receiving yards with 1,574.
Powers, a Dubuque native, graduated from Senior High School in 2012 and completed his Loras College degree in Engineering in 2017. Powers lives in Dubuque with his fiancé Rachel Spurling, and daughter August.
