Summary

Biography

Kurt Christensen ('94) becomes the 12th inductee into the hall of fame that competed as a wrestler at Loras. With a career record of 67-21-1, Christensen finished third in the Iowa Conference twice and was a two-time NCAA Division III All-American, placing fourth in 1993 and fifth in 1994. While Christensen was a member of the wrestling program, the Duhawks owned a dual-meet record of 45-28-1, which included a pair of third-place finishes in the IIAC. During his junior season, Loras finished the season ranked No. 7 in Division III.

As a junior, Christensen moved up a weight class from 126 pounds to 133. That season, Christensen trained everyday against Pete Maldonado ('92), who eventually went on to become the NCAA Division III National Champion in March of 1992.

Since his graduation, Christensen has remained involved with the team through former head coach Randy Steward. Christensen is a regular volunteer for the home tournaments that Loras hosts, including the Duhawk Open and "Pat Flanagan Open". Come February, the Dubuque native can be found volunteering his time to assist with the NCAA Central Regional that Loras has hosted since 2011.

Leo Costello ('92), who nominated Christensen for induction, shared, "He made everyone around him better. Kurt's work ethic and desire to be the best pushed everyone to higher levels of accomplishment. Kurt was a fighter and a competitor that words can't describe."
